OBSERVING QUIET TIME
Text: Matthew 6:6
Emphasis: And he withdrew himself into the wilderness, and prayed (Luke 5:16)
Narration:
True believers observe quiet times by leaving the cares of the world behind to commune with God. A quiet time is a time when we are at best to hear from God and speak to Him. It is the foundation of effectual fervent communication with God, our Creator (Philippians 4:6-7). We should not always come up with excuses that we don’t have time for personal devotions; we must create time for God more than we do for other things. We each have 24 hours daily; we decide what we do with our time.
In John Chapter 4, Christ Jesus told the Samaritan woman that the time for true worshippers to worship God in Spirit and in Truth is now. One of the essences of observing a quiet time is to submit to the supremacy of God and align our spirits with His. Romans 8:16, says, “The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God.” The Holy Spirit is our faithful Guide and makes intercessions for us as we observe our quiet time. He is a true Friend that is ever present in a true believer’s life.
God’s intention in the Garden at Eden after He created man was to have a close relationship with man. In a fast-paced, noisy and polluted world, where we are encumbered with many material concerns, it is difficult to hear God’s voice. But devoted servants of God have learnt over the years that certain disciplines and practices help them keep the spiritual channels open, and the heart tuned towards God. Some of these practices are inward calmness, soberness, gentleness and humility. To enjoy God’s continual presence, we must possess these qualities that create a conducive atmosphere for the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
