A well known writer, John Maxwell, said that life is a matter of choices, and every choice
you make makes you. Looking at the scriptures, we see bible characters who made
choices, some good ones and some bad ones, based on the final outcome of their choices.
In Joshua 24:15, Joshua challenged the people of Israel to “choose you this day whom ye
shall serve”. He declared that as for him and his household, they have chosen to serve the
Lord. David, also declared in Psalm 119:30 that he has “chosen the way of truth”.
Abraham, Moses, Joseph, Daniel, the Apostles of Christ, all had to make choices. We also
see characters like Cain, Esau, Saul, Samson, Judas Iscariot, and others who also made
choices that did not end well with them.

The scriptures also make us to know that in life’s journey, there are two ways; one leads to
life, and the other to destruction. The two ways are described in the Bible using various
terms. For instance the way that leads to life is described as the way of truth (Psalm 119:30),
the way of light (1John 1:7; John *:12), way of righteousness (Prov 12:28), the narrow way
(Matt 7:14), the old path (Jer 6:16), the good way (Jer 6:16), the way of wisdom (Prov 4:11).
The other way that leads to death and destruction is described as the way of the fool (Prov
12:15), the broad way (Matt 7:13), the way of the wicked (Prov 4:19), the way of darkness
(Prov 4:19).

God has given man the freedom to make choices, and the choices we make everyday will
eventually determine our eternal destiny. The Bible says we should “strive to enter in at the
strait gate” (Luk 13:24). To “strive” here means be earnest, to put in dedicated effort and
determination, to persevere through difficulties and temptations, to urgently cut off whatever
is tying you down to sin, to adhere to m9ral and spiritual principles, to deliberately burn the
bridge that links you with the world. “And from the days of John the Baptist until now the
kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force” (Matthew 11:
12). A person who desires salvation, holy living and eternal life must take the initiative in
pursuing spiritual growth. Such a person must persevere through challenges and actively
seek spiritual guidance. Takin the decision to follow the way of truth is only the beginning of
a life-long journey of walking in the narrow way. It is only those who “shall endure unto the
end, that shall be saved” (Matthew 24: 13).

Having found the way of truth, that leads to life everlasting, the Word of God says the we
must walk in it (Isa 2:3,5; Jer 6:16). Walking in the Way of light denotes a steady
perseverance in faith and obedience to God through the grace of Christ. Walking in the
narrow way means that our mind, our affection, our will, our speech and all our actions will
be brought within the compass of God’s Holy Word.
Those who are walking in the way of truth, have been called out of the world, cleansed and
made new creatures in Christ, they are walking in the light and do not secretly have
fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness (Eph 5:11); they keep themselves unspotted
from the world (Jam 1:27), and constantly crucify the flesh with the affections and lusts (Gal
5:24); they abstain from all appearance of evil (1Thes 5:22), die to carnal desires daily (Rom
8:13), and bury self-will at the foot of the Cross; they are willing to suffer the loss of things
which will hinder them from getting to heaven at last (Luke 14:33).

Don’t wait till it becomes too late. Now is the time to make the right choice. There is still
room. The gate of love is still open. Enter while you may!
