Apart from the disciples who followed Jesus everywhere, the Samaritan Woman was the first person to whom Christ first revealed Himself as the Messiah. He chose a Samaritan (whom the Jews would have nothing to do with) and a woman who had a tainted past. What abomination! God forbid! Abi?

First a man should not be found speaking with a woman alone and to make it worse, it was a woman who had left many husbands and was now living with her lover? Tufiakwa! Abi?

That’s what many of us would have said of her. But Jesus chose her.

A woman who was so ashamed of ridicule, she waited till that time of day to go and fetch water so that she would not meet all those ‘holy women’ that would mock her.

He loved her! He broke racial and gender barriers to touch her heart with His love and this love transformed her. He broke class barriers as well (he had just finished speaking with Nicodemus, a rich, highly placed Pharisee). She was so touched that she went to share the news with her people. Her people who had rejected her! She was willing to risk it all. She became one of the first preachers of the gospel of Christ.

1. Jesus loves you so deeply, He will do anything for you. No matter what you have done. He wants a relationship with you. He wants your heart and attention. He wants you!

2. When unbelievers or backsliden Christians come in contact with you, let them encounter Christ. Show them His love, not condemnation. John 4: 3 & 4 records that Jesus left Judaea for Galilee but said He must go through Samaria. He wanted to reach that woman. He deliberately chose that route so that she would encounter His love and be transformed.

Let us be the same for others. Let us put aside our biases and let people encounter Christ’s love through us.
